The Canadian Senate has passed an amendment to a transgender rights bill that would ban trans people from using the bathrooms that correspond with their gender identity. Now, trans people in Canada (and their trans supporters in the United States) are sharing photos on Twitter and Facebook of themselves in public bathrooms they would be legally obligated to use under Senator Donald Plett’s bill. Not to get political but my philosophy is fundamentally that all people should suffer less. That it’s everyone’s responsibility to try to make the world a little better for everyone else. And anyone trying to do the opposite is an asshole who needs to stop.
diet culture is so rooted in the idea that our bodies are machines that our minds have to outwit. it pushes for the idea that hunger is something you have to “beat”, that cravings are an annoyance to ignore or outwit, that the way our bodies want to look and want to be is something to fight, that it needs to be helped to do things it was built to do.
here is the liberating truth- your body is so smart and it is trying to help you. it works so hard to keep you alive- sometimes it fails at what it’s trying to do, sometimes it does it in unconvential ways, but it is trying to keep you alive! hunger is our body saying “we need food”- it’s not something to ignore or supress. cravings are our body saying “we need a specific type of food”- they aren’t something to trick or prevent. natural weight and weight distribution are our body saying “this is the shape in which we work best”- they aren’t something to control or reduce. denying this is what hurts us most- even though diet culture tries to tell us that listening to our bodies and treating them with kindness and forgiveness is wrong.
An underwater landslide caused by the eruption of Anak Krakatau spawned a tsunami that as of today (Dec. 24) has killed 373 people. This already on top of other earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, and the Sulawesi Tsunami. Millions have been displaced, thousands dead, and many more still missing. As Anak Krakatau is an actively erupting volcano, it could still generate more waves, hampering rescue efforts and displacing more people.

Arinaitwe Gerald, an Batwa indigenous organizer I talk to regularly who lives in southwestern Uganda, is currently having trouble providing for orphaned children he and his wife have taken in in addition to their own children after their mother passed away a bit over a month ago.
One of the children, a 12 year old girl named Immaculate, is in serious pain due to having a cyst caused by goiter. She had been recommended for surgery all the way back in October, but because $700 is nowhere near an amount her late mother or Gerald and his wife can afford, she has still not gotten the treatment she needs and they are even having difficulty getting the $85 needed for an injection that would potentially help decrease the pain and size of the cyst temporarily.
Please spread this fundraiser and donate if possible! Immaculate and her siblings, as well as the Batwa people at large need all the help they can get, and no 12 year old should have to go through all that she is currently dealing with.
